My wife' s New Beetle also needed a bulb.
After a half-hearted attempt at replacing it, I took it to the VW dealer. I think it cost me abt $50.
I thought it a bit on the high side. Until I spoke to my neighbor [has a Honda] . Turns out that it cost him $45 at Honda dealer to replace his headlight bulb too!
Made me realize that VW dealer was charging me a fair price.....
