How do I replace a headlight bulb on a 1986 Mercedes 300E?

As specific as possible. Links to sets of step-by-step instructions would also be great. I guess what I'm asking is, how exactly do I disassemble the headlight assembly enough that I can replace the light but not so much that I'm breaking something? It's more complicated (Is that a tiny windshield wiper on the headlight?) than most cars. How do I replace a headlight bulb on a 1986 Mercedes 300E?You don't have to disassemble the headlamp from the front so the headlamp wiper system does not matter.

Are you in North America or elsewhere in the world? The reason I ask is because there are 2 different headlamp systems and North America has their own version.

Regardless, they are pretty much the same as far as replacing the H/L bulb. On the rear of the headlamp there will be a cover, remove this. There will either be a retaining clip or ring around the bulb as well as an an electrical connection on the back of the bulb. Remove both of those as well.

You can now remove the bulb from the back of the headlamp housing. As mentioned above, be careful not to touch the glass of the new bulb. This is because the oil that is naturally on your skin stays on the glass and when you turn the headlamp on, the heat from the halogen bulb boils the oil and can easily break the glass.

Put the new bulb in and reverse the removal instructions. How do I replace a headlight bulb on a 1986 Mercedes 300E?first of do not Touch the new bulb with your fingers, use a rag to handle the glass!! Open the bonnet %26amp; you will see behind the headlight a round cap that if you turn will come off, you will then be able to access the bulb holder %26amp; it should pull out from the plug. If you have an owners manual it has detailed step by step instructions If not try to get a manual from a wrecker if you don't have one it is invaluable for routine maintenance jobs like bulbs etc. Good luck
